Bob was born and raised in Mamaroneck, New York. He attended college at the Cambridge School of Business in Boston, Massachusetts, where he studied radio and TV. Bob enlisted in the Air Force in 1968. He spent five years in the service, including one year in Southeast Asia and two years in southern Germany. In 1973 Bob returned to New York and attended Announcer Training Studios. From 1974 to 1984, he worked for six radio stations, mostly in the Washington, D.C., area.
In 1984, Bob came to the Voice of America. Over the years, he has received awards for announcing and narration. He is shift chief in English Production, where he oversees a staff of 13 people.
Bob married his wife Claudette in 1978. They have three sons and one grandchild.
