President Obama has announced the end of United States fighting operations in Iraq. He said it is time to move forward now that the Iraqi people have the lead responsibility for their security. In a speech to the nation Tuesday, Mr. Obama honored the men and women who fought in the armed forces. He says more than 4,400 have died in the war. The war began in March of 2003 under the presidency of George W. Bush. President Obama asked Iraq's leaders to "move forward with a sense of urgency" in forming a representative government. About 50,000 American troops remain in Iraq with the aim of training and advising Iraq's security forces.
