WORLD NEWS - July 17th, 2009

It is 00:30 universal time with world news in Special English reporting from VOA World Headquarter in Washington.

Supporters of the Russian Human rights activist Natalya Estemirova held the funeral for her in Chechnya. Mourners gathered Grozny to watch her near body that was taken to a burial place in the eastern Chechnya village. Ms. Estemirova was kidnapped Wednesday near her home in Grozny by several men who forced her into a car. Officials fund her body several hours later in nearby Ingushetia, She has been shot in the head and chest. Human rights Activists were blaming the Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov for her death. They said he hated Ms. Estemirova for reporting on kidnappings, murders and human rights abuses in Chechnya. But Mr. Kadyrov said he is angry about the killing and will pushily supervise the investigation of the death.   

The Prime Minister of Pakistan and Indian say action on the fighting terrorism should not be linked to their peace talks. Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh released the joint statesman Thursday. The statesman followed talks in Egypt and restarting peace talks after terrorist’s attacks in Mumbai last year. Later however Mr. Singh told reporters that peace talks with Pakistan cannot restart until those responsible for the Mumbai attacks are brought to justice. Mr. Gilani said Wednesday that he believed the relationships between Indian and Pakistan have improved. He said the lasting peace in South Asia is possible.   

The United States Defense Secretary Robert Gates says he does not think the number of the American troops in Afghanistan will increase very much beyond levels of ready approved. Secretary Robert Gates made the comment at an army base in the State of New York but he said he will not know until he read a report by the new American and the NATO commander General Stanley McChrystal. 68,000 soldiers are in the approved for operation of the Afghanistan.

In other news a Taliban commander in southeastern of Afghanistan is threatening to kill a captured American soldier. Mawlavi Sangin said that the soldier will be killed if the American military continues its operations in the Province of Paktika and Ghazni.     

China said its economic growth by almost 8% from the year early. The national bureau of Statistics reported that the Chinese economic grow 7.9 % during the second three months period of the year. The officials say the growth is the results of the $586 billion economic recovery plan. One government spokesman warns China’s economy is not completely healthy. But some economists predicted China will be the first major country to recover from world economic crisis. One of a few economists to predict world financial crisis now says the Untied States may be unless way to a recovery. New York University Professor Nouriel Roubini said Thursday the recession could come to and ended this year. But Mr. Roubini also said another economic recovery plan may be needed to shrink them recovery efforts.

The United Nations Security Council is placed new restrictions on five North Korean and five organizations linked to the country’s nuclear and missile programs. Four of organizations are North Korean. They included the General Bureau of Atomic Energy the agency may lead responsible for the North Korea's nuclear program. A fifth organization is Iranian based Hong Kong Electronics. The individuals included two officials with the General Bureau of Atomic Energy and the former director of the Yongbyon Nuclear Research Center. The individuals and organizations are barred from ruling money and other financial property. The individuals have banned for transfer.  

In Egypt Security forces say at least 15 people were wounded in clashes between police and protesters in the Southern city of Minlian. Thousands of people who worked in rock mines demonstrated against government plans to waste the coast mining. Witnesses say police used tear gas to break up the crowd. The Protesters throw rocks. Officials say at least 8 policemen were injured. Several Protesters were injured from breathing tear gas.  

And in Turkey the government will soon announce the next part of its plan to ban smoking in public. Smoking will no longer be permitted in Coffee houses, drinking places and restaurants starting on July 19th. Owns of such places feel the ban will hurt business. Smoking is already no permitted in work places and public areas such buses. Smokers cut while waiting the bank face of $45 fine.
