Former Iranian government officials are criticizing the trials of people detained in protests following the disputed presidential elections. Former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami says the trial of more than 100 Iranian protesters is “unconstitutional”. He says the government used illegal methods to gain admissions of guilt. Another 10 Iranian activists charged in connection with the protests followed the election went on trial Sunday. That is one day after the start of the group trial for detained activists. Opposition politicians and supporters say Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won reelection because of cheating.

Mr. Maliki met with the Kurdish area President Massoud Barzani and Iraq's President Jalal Talabani, who is also a Kurd. The three met near the city of Sulaymaniyah.
