A suicide bomber has killed at least 23 people including several top officials during on the attack in eastern of Afghanistan; at least 35 people were injured. The attack took place in Laghman province about 100 km east of Kabul. Afghan official say the attacker explored the bomb in the middle of crowd leaving an Islamic center. Afghanistan Deputy Chief of Intelligence Abdullah Laghmani was among the dead. A man claiming represent to Taliban says the intelligent official was the target of the attack.

More than 25 diplomats have met in Paris for talks on ways to help in violence in Afghanistan. French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner says foreign troops will not leave the country until it is secure. He also says that many countries want to work to support Afghanistan with development projects linked to agriculture, health and education. Official say the top of part of serious meetings plan for special representatives who deal with Afghan issues. The diplomats also discuss the recent Afghan election. American official Richard Holbrooke also attended the meeting. He said the United States is most concerned about the failures of the voting process in Afghanistan.

Diplomats from six nations met in the German city of Frankfurt Wednesday for talks about Iran’s nuclear program. The six nations are urging Iran to return to negotiations. The six are the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany. They have offered Iran assistance with trade if the Iranian government ends its uranium enrichment program. They also are considering top of measures to punish Iran if it refuses.

Indonesian official say a powerful earthquake near the Island of Java has killed at least 33 people. More than 300 others have been injured. The earthquake struck in waters about 200 km southeast of Jakarta. It caused landslides and destroyed hundreds of homes. Buildings in Jakarta shook causing frighten office workers to flee. Official order thousands of people to leave areas closed to where the earthquake was strongest. One official said 40 people are missing. American experts say the earthquake measured 7.0 and struck at about 50 km deep in the water.

In India rescuers are searching for a helicopter carrying a politician. Official say they lost communication with helicopter carrying Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y.S.R. Reddy. Several other officials were also on the helicopter. It left Hyderabad Wednesday on the trip to the southern Chittoor area. Officials used jet airplanes, satellite images and ground searches by local villagers in the efforts to find the helicopter.

The world’s largest drug company, Pfizer has agreed to pay over $ 2 billion for breaking marketing rules for drugs. The United States Justice Department says the fine is the largest ever in the case involving health care. The case involved the marketing of several drugs including the arthritis pain’s drug "Bextra." It was taken off the market because of its safety concerns. The government found that Pfizer wrongly tried to get doctors to give "Bextra" to patients for uses other than of arthritis pain. It is legal for doctors to decide to do these. But companies may not push doctors to give drugs to patients for unapproved uses. Companies also may not pay doctors to prescribe their drugs.

Chinese government operated media say a chemical explosion has killed 18 people in China’s Shandong Province. Ten people were reported injured. Xinhua news agency says workers were removing chemicals from a truck in Linyi city Wednesday when a fire started. The fire caused the explosion. It is not clear what chemicals were involved. Xinhua says the explosion is being investigated.

The president of the World Bank says he agrees with China’s policy of continue economic expansion instead of reducing spending. Robert Zoellick met with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in Beijing Wednesday. Mr. Zoellick says China’s actions have helped prevent the world financial crisis from getting worse. He predicted the China’s economy will grow by 8% this year. He said China should keep its markets open to continue its economic recovery. Mr. Zoellick also said China should avoid policies that limited imports. The European Business Group expressed concern Wednesday that China may be using protection policies.

China says it is deployed ten of thousands of military police to prepare for the 60th anniversary of Communist rule next month. The Chinese government says the People’s Armed Police Force will guard important areas and streets in the city of Beijing and Shanghai. They will be sent to back in Xinjiang. China says it also has ordered Armed Police to increase security in six areas around Beijing. Last week China’s Parliament passed the law that makes the People's Armed Police responsible for dealing Terrorism and social riots.

Officials in Burkina Faso say flooding caused by heavy rains has killed 5 people. More than 150,000 people in the capital, Ouagadougou are homeless. Prime Minister Tertius Zongo spoke after the emergency Cabinet meeting Wednesday. He said the government has opened schools and the official buildings in the capital to give people shelter. Many poorly build homes collapsed under the rain. Weather experts say the rain were the heaviest the country has had in 19 years.
