An American military officer has denied accusations that his forces undercounted civilian deaths in Iraq. General George Casey was reacting to the release of secret military documents on the Internet. The WikiLeaks website published the documents on Friday. They showed that more than 100,000 people were killed in Iraq after the American led invasion in 2003. 50,000 of those killed were said to be unknown or unreported Iraqi civilian deaths. General Casey commanded United States forces in Iraq from 2004 to 2007. He said Monday there was no effort to undercount civilian deaths. He also rejected suggestions that American troops failed to stop Iraqi prisoner abuse.

A spokesman for President Obama said nations around the world have every reason to be concerned about Iranian influence in Afghanistan. Earlier Monday, President Karzai confirmed that his office received "bags of money" from Iran. He said the financial aid was not secret or unusual.
