  1. Here is the news in Special English. I'm Mario Ritter in Washington.
  2. The head of the United Nations nuclear agency says he expects Iran to sign an agreement quite soon to permit inspections of suspected nuclear centers. International Atomic Energy Agency chief Yukio spoke in Vienna Tuesday. The IAEA chief said he met with chief Iranian nuclear negotiator Saeed Jolly Lee during a short visit to Iran. Mr. * said he and Mr. Jolly Lee decided to reach an agreement on opening Iranian centers to UN inspectors. He said the areas include the Partain Military Center. Western countries suspect Iran has carried out nuclear weapons research at that center. Iran denies this.
  3. A rocket designed and built by a private company has successfully been launched to take supplies to the international space station. Television cameras showed the launch of the Dragon space capsule from Cape Canaveral Florida. The rocket called the Falcon nine belongs to the space company Space annex. 3, 2, 1, 0 and launch of the space X thousand nine rocket as NASA returns to the private sector to resupply. The Dragon spaceship is expected to reach the international space station on Thursday.
  4. Pakistani officials say unknown gunmen opened fire on a demonstration in Karachi on Tuesday. The officials say at least 10 people were killed and 20 others were wounded. Sindhi nationalists had launched the demonstration to protest streak writing in Karachi and nearby *. The writing demanded a separate province for the areas * speaking community. No one immediately claimed responsibility after the shooting the demonstration organizer blamed angry groups within the * speaking community in the violence.
  5. The United States ambassador to Afghanistan Ryan Crocker is expected to step down from his position in the coming months. The announcement came Tuesday in a statement from the American Embassy in Kabul said Mr. Crocker was confirming with regret that he will leave as ambassador or sometime in the middle of this year. A State Department official said the ambassador is stepping down for health reasons. Mr. Crocker left retirement last July to become the top United States diplomat to Afghanistan. He had reopened the embassy in Kabul in January of 2002. On Monday, President Obama finished a NATO leadership meeting in Chicago. Mr. Obama said NATO is united in a plan to end the war in Afghanistan and have the country command its own security by 2014.
  6. Forces for the government in Somalia are trying to seize a militant position near a huge refugee camp near Mogadishu. African Union peacekeepers and Somali government troops launched an attack Tuesday on the town of * which is controlled by the group Albob. Witnesses reported heavy fighting in the area. It includes camp's for about 400,000 Somalis who fled their homes because of dry conditions and years of war. VOA's Somali Service reports that a government official says at least five people involved in the fighting have been killed. And African Union delegation in Somalia said al Bob has been preventing aid agencies from operating in the area.

  8. A new study says false sort poor quality drugs for treating malaria throughout Asia and Africa threatened a campaign to defeat the disease. Poorly manufactured or false drugs were provided over the last 10 years. The United States national institutes of health made the report. The NIH said information collected from 21 sub-Saharan African nations showed 35% of the antimalarial drugs failed chemical testing. Another 25% were found to be false.
  9. The United States airplane flight from Paris to Charlotte North Carolina is landed safely in Bangor Maine. An airline spokesman said a security issue causes the plane to change plans. The change in its flight plan put the US Airways passenger jet 1400 km from where it was supposed to land. The North American Aerospace Defense command says two after 15 fighter jets flew along with the passenger plane. The US transportation safety administration said law enforcement officials met it at the airport. The TSA said it knows of reports that a passenger on the plane was acting suspiciously.
  10. North Korea is warning that it will continue to develop its nuclear program. But it says that the country has not planned a military measure like a nuclear test. The North Korean Foreign Ministry said the country did not have a plan for a nuclear test from the beginning. But it said North Korea wanted to launch a scientific and technical satellite. The ministry also said ways toward peaceful resolution of the nuclear issue through communication and negotiation still exist. The North Korean Central News agency published the statements.
  11. And Russian President Vladimir Putin has named seven former cabinet ministers to government jobs. He made a declaration Tuesday bringing the ministers into his administration. On Monday, Mr. Putin announced his new government. Former Interior Minister Rashid Nora Gallia is among his new aids. Mr. Nora Gallia was named deputy to a major leader on Russia's Security Council.
