A powerful earthquake measuring 7.0 has hit the nation of Haiti. It calls buildings in the capital Port au Prince to collapse. Reports say the home of the President and other government buildings were heavily damaged. Reports of number of dead and injury cannot be confirmed because communications have been severely affected. Scientists say the first earthquake struck Tuesday afternoon and was followed by two smaller quakes. President Obama says the United States is watching the situation closely and is ready to help the people of Haiti. Experts say the quake is the largest to hit the area in 200 years.
