President Obama is proposing a federal budget with 3 trillion 800 billion dollars. The plan calls for creating jobs and reducing long-term deficits. The spending plan would increase taxes on wealthy individuals and some large banks. It would also raise spending for jobs, the military, and education. The plan is set to go into a fact on October 1, for the 2011 financial year. But it must first be approved by Congress. Opposition Republican lawmakers are very critical of the spending plan. President Obama's budget calls for the most Defense Department spending in history, more than 7 billion dollars for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The money is also to be used to prepare the American armed forces for any future conflicts or natural disasters. Included in the defense budget is 33 billion dollars to pay the cost of sending 30,000 more troops to fight the war in Afghanistan. The budget also calls for additional billions of dollars for Pakistan to train and equip its forces to fight Islamist militants along the Afghan border.
