Afghan and NATO commanders are reporting progress in the offensive against the Taliban at Marjah in the southern Province of Helmand. But they also say allies’ troops are taking heavy fire in some areas and the roadside bombs have slowed the progress. Afghan Interior Minister Hanif Atmar says Monday the coalition forces have left no chance for Taliban fighters to free Marjah. He urged the militants to surrender. In Kandahar Province the NATO airstrike killed 5 civilians by mistake on Monday. On Sunday two rockets missed their targets and killed 12 civilians in Marjah. The offensive involves about 15,000 American, British and Afghan troops. This is the largest join operation of the war.
