Thai troops and military vehicles have reached in area in Bangkok where anti-government protesters have been camped for weeks. They have fired tear gas to try to break up people gathered in the area. There have been some reports of gunfire. Soldiers sprayed water on barriers set up by protesters to prevent them from being burned. Troops warned demonstrators and others to leave the area Wednesday. On Tuesday leaders of the protesters called "red-shirts" said that they are willing to take part in talks aided by the Thai senate. But the government said it would not hold talks until protesters leave their camp. Nearly forty people have been killed in violence over the past week between government troops and demonstrators.
