Oil Company BP has begun to test its new oil well containment cap. BP hopes the new cap will fully contain the leak from the damaged well in the Gulf of Mexico. BP officials say they are blocking the flow of oil from the well as part of the pressure test. The test involves closing all the control devices on the new cap to see if it can contain the leak. If not, experts will know the oil is flowing from another part of the well. United States National Incident Commander Thad Allen said government officials spent about a day examining plans for the test before approving it. He says if the new cap continues to show high pressure readings for an extended period, it could fully contain the leaking oil. He says if not, the well may be damaged beneath the ground.
