The United Nations says the worst floods ever in northwest Pakistan have left about 1,000,000 people in need of emergency assistance. A UN statement said the main problem for rescuers is a lack of direct contact with those in need. The flood waters have damaged houses, roads, bridges, communications and other public services, like electricity. More than 1200 people have died from the flooding. There are fears that survivors will catch diseases like diarrhea and cholera, because most drinking water is dirty or polluted.
