希望大家有时间多听写一下除周一以外的新闻,以方便其他听友。

It is 00:30 universal time. It's Friday in America. Here now the news in VOA Special English, I'm Christopher Cruise reporting living from Washington.

Syrian security forces shot and killed at least 15 people Friday during protests across the country. Activists and witnesses say protesters were killed in Hama, Homs, Aleppo, and in towns near the capital, Damascus. Earlier Friday, government forces began raids ahead of the protesters. Activists say a woman was killed after soldiers raided a town in the province of Idlib, and a man was shot and killed as he fled security forces near Damascus. State-run media say "armed groups" killed three police officers and two civilians.

Thousands of opponents of Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh have renewed calls for him to leave office. Protesters gathered in cities across the country on Friday. But people loyal to the government also demonstrated. Government supporters gathered in a central square in the capital, Sana'a. The state-operated SABA news agency showed supporters carrying pictures of the president. On Thursday, Mr Saleh repeated his willingness to consider a Gulf Cooperation Council plan that he has accepted and then rejected three times in the past. It calls for him to leave office. He said he is looking for a way to carry out the proposal that would guarantee a peaceful change of power. The proposal calls for Mr Saleh to give power to his vice president. It also calls for a national unity government and a presidential election.

The government of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi is threatening to execute any citizen caught using a satellite telephone without official permission. State-run media reports say the government wants to keep people from helping NATO forces. NATO has been bombing government positions across Libya.

Italy's government has approved deep budget cuts demanded by the European Central Bank. Italy is trying to balance its budget in two years to meet the demands of the European bank. The spending cuts were approved even now local area leaders say they will hurt the poor. Italy's Cabinet says it will cut spending by about $28 billion in 2012 and 35 billion in 2013. Separately, European stock markets gained value Friday for the second day. Prices of shares on United States markets also increased. Share prices in Britain, France and Germany were up more than three percent when markets closed.

Sales of goods to American consumers increased in July by one-half of one percent. That is the largest increase in retail sales in four months. The Commerce Department says people increased spending on cars, furniture and gasoline. The retail sales report is an important measure of the economic health of the United States. A second report, however, called the consumer confidence index, dropped 14 percent in August. That is the lowest level of consumer confidence since May 1980. The report show American still have economic concerns. About 14 million American workers remain unemployed.

You're listening to the news in VOA Special English live from Washington.

A Pakistani court has sentenced a security soldier to death for killing an unarmed 19-year-old man. The shooting in June caused public anger after it was caught on camera and broadcast on television. The anti-terrorism court also ordered the soldier to pay $2,300 for the killing. The court sentenced five other soldiers and a civilian security guard to life in prison for their involvement in the deadly shooting.

Nigeria has sent a man to the United States to face trial for a crime that cost lawyers more than 30 million dollars. The Nigerian suspect was handed over to American officials earlier this week. He was charged in the eastern state of Pennsylvania. Nigerian officials say Emmanuel Ekhator was part of a crime system that involved false financial documents and several criminals pretending to be victims and bankers.

Somalia's militant group al-Shabab says it will use new methods of warfare in the capital Mogadishu. Al-Shabab leader Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys made the statement on London's Somali Broadcast Channel Friday. He said the group will use a new plan because it cannot now defeat the military power of pro-government forces. The Somali government pushed the al-Qaida-linked rebels out of the area on August 6. The action was taken to clear the way for foreign aid shipments to help people suffering from lack of food and rain.

And finally of this hour, Saturday is the fiftieth anniversary of the building of the wall that divided the German city of Berlin into east and west. The World War Two allies divided Germany into four areas at the end of the war. The American, French and British areas became West Germany. The area controlled by the Soviet Union became East Germany. The wall was built to keep people in the east from fleeing to the west. In 1989, people in East Germany brought down the wall as well as the communist government. The reunited city of Berlin will mark the beginning of the building of the dividing wall with ceremonies across the city on Saturday.

And now briefly, here again is the major news of this hour in VOA Special English. Syrian security forces shot and killed at least 15 people Friday during anti-government protests across the country. Thousands of opponents of Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh have renewed calls for him to leave office. And a Pakistani court has sentenced a security soldier to death for killing an unarmed 19-year-old man.
