  2. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is calling on Syria to give humanitarian workers immediate access to people who need aid. He said Friday the UN continues to receive reports of executions of detentions without resume and torture. Mr. Ban urged Syria to permit a head of UN emergency relief office to visit areas of the country that have been attacked by Syrian forces.
  3. Voting has ended in parliamentary elections in Iran. The iranian state media said large numbers of people waited in long lines to vote. Iran's Interior Ministry voting stations open for several additional hours. It is believed the election results will strengthen the control of the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali * over conservatives who were linked to President Mahmoud Michaud. Iran's main opposition and reformist groups have a boycott of the election.
  4. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel has no right to defend itself against Iran. Mr. Netanyahu said Iran calls and works for the destruction of Israel. He spoke in Ottawa Friday after meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Mr. Netanyahu also listed Israeli demands for Iran. They include the disarmament of Iran's underground nuclear center *, ending uranium enrichment and the removal of all enriched material from the country.
  5. The Top Afghan clergyman have condemned the United States for the burning of the Koran of the NATO base last month. * Counsel called the burning of the Muslim holy books a crime and inhumane. The group said it would not accept apologies by American military officials in President Obama. It also called for those responsible for the burning to be publicly tried them published.

  7. Somali government and African Union forces have captured an area near Mogadishu from * fighters. Officials say the forces launched an attack to seize * from Alshare Bob early Friday. Witnesses said the troops seized control will be an area after a gun battle that lasted several hours. The AU force said the purpose of the operation was to deny the militants an area from which they have launched attacks in the capital. The Somali government and AU forces pushed Alshare Bob out of Mogadishu last year. But the militant group as continued to carry out suicide bombings in the city.
  8. The international organization for migration says a train carrying 1400 S. Sudanese is now left Khartoum on the way to South Sudan. The trip is expected to take 10 days. Passengers fled to northern Sudan during the Civil War that led to South Sudan's independence last year. This is the first train to leave Khartoum for the South since the two governments signed an agreement of understanding in February. Governments agreed to a voluntary safe and dignified return process. More than 500,000 Sudanese lived in the Republic of Sudan. They are required to leave the country by early next month or seek to officially change their residency documents.
  9. The Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin says he feels sure he will win the country's presidential election on Sunday. Mr. Putin said anti-Putin protests since the parliamentary elections in December were in his words of very good experience for Russia. He spoke to foreign newspaper officials in Moscow on Friday. Mr. Putin refused to cancel the results from the December elections following reports of cheating. In that election, the Prime Minister's United Russia party held its majority in parliament.
  10. European Union leaders gathered in Brussels on Friday to sign the treaty on the stability coordination and governments. It requires EU members to balance their budgets or face economic sanctions. 25 of the 27 EU members signed the measure. Britain and the Czech Republic did not. The new treaty is the latest European effort to attempt to the confidence government debt crisis EU Council President Herman was reported as saying it will help prevent another debt crisis. He said it also would strengthen economic growth and job creation. German Chancellor Dale America said the treaty is important in creating a more unified Europe.
  11. And finally at this hour. Tornadoes have hit several southern American states. At least four people are dead. Officials in the town of Marysville in the Midwestern state of Indiana said the town is in their words completely gone. And media reports say there were injuries and heavy damage near Louisville Kentucky. Two possible tornadoes were reported to have destroyed homes Friday in northeastern Alabama. Reports from the city of Huntsville Alabama say maximum-security prison there was damage. Officials say none of the more than 2000 prisoners escaped.
