  1. No candidate appears to have won the majority of the votes in Egypt's first democratic presidential election. Partial vote counts show the candidate of the Muslim Brotherhood Mohammed * in the lead. Former Prime Minister Ahmed Cioffi is in second place most likely Egyptians will choose between the two candidates ever special runoff election on June 16 and 17th. Final results from the voting this week will not be announced until Tuesday. Mr. * was not a Brotherhood's first choice for its presidential candidate. However, he got the job when the leading candidate was barred from seeking office. During his campaign, Mr. * said his presidency would be based on the Islam but not be of religious administration. Mr. Shafi served as prime minister under former Pres. Hani Mubarak.
  2. Protesters in Syria launched anti government demonstrations on Friday. As Friday prayers ended, demonstrations were reported in major cities including Damascus and Aleppo. The protesters continued their calls for Syrian President Assad to resign. Syrian activist says security forces killed at least four people during protests in different parts of the country. Earlier Friday, the opposition Syrian Observatory for human rights reported that government forces shot and killed four people in Bahama area. It said another person was killed in the * province. Details of the incidents were not available.
  3. Suspected suicide attackers have caused an explosion near a police station in central Turkey. The attack reportedly killed one policeman and wounded around 20 civilians. Turkish Interior Minister * says two suspects drove a car through a security stop Friday that causes the vehicle to explode outside the police station in the town of *. But Turkish officials said security forces fired at the car before it exploded. Both attackers were killed in the incident and there's been no immediate claim of responsibility.
  4. The International Atomic Energy Agency says it's inspectors have found enriched uranium in Iran at higher levels than before. In the past, the highest level of enriched uranium had been just about 20%. Such uranium was normally used for fuel for research and medical purposes. The agency reported finding uranium enriched up to 27% at Iran's photo fuel enrichment center in *. 90% enrichment can be used to produce nuclear weapons. Iran explained that the higher level of particles was a technical mistake. The IAEA said it is studying Iran's explanation and has requested more details.
  5. Italian carmaker Fiat SPA announced Friday that it's and its other businesses including truck maker Fiat industrial plan to halt sales to Iran. The company said all new sales to Iran would be halted. But Fiat promised to honor agreements that were made before Friday. The announcement follows similar moves by other carmakers. They were under pressure to cut ties to the Iranian government because of Iran's nuclear activities. Fiat said it supports international efforts for a diplomatic solution to the nuclear dispute between Iran and other countries. It also said that Fiat earlier sales to Iran concerned only commercial and civilian products.

  7. The space X Dragon spacecraft has made history becoming the first privately owned vehicle to reach the international space station. Astronauts on the space station used a robotic arm to catch and pull the spacecraft toward the space station. Crew members will open the Dragon on Saturday. It will remain linked with the space station for a week so that the station's crew can remove supplies. The Dragon is carrying more than 500 kg of supplies. Crewmembers will then fill the empty spacecraft with used equipment to be sent back to Earth.
  8. French president * says he plans to withdraw all 2000 French combat troops from Afghanistan by the end of the year. However, he also said that France will continue to support Afghanistan. Mr. Aland announced Friday that his country will organize the troop withdrawal with the Afghan government and the NATO. He also said about 1300 French soldiers will stay in the country to help train the Afghan forces and operate equipment. Mr. Aland made the announcement during an unexpected visit to Afghanistan.
  9. The United Nations human rights chief has urged Western nations to suspend sanctions on Zimbabwe. The UN High Commissioner for human rights * wants the suspension so that the country can enact reforms. Ms. Pillai said the Western restrictions are barriers to foreign banks and investment in the country. She said this ends up hurting the poorest and weakest people in Zimbabwe. UN officials spoke to reporters Friday during a stop in Harare.
  10. And the International Committee of the Red Cross says fighting in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo is spreading. The ICRC reported Friday that the fighting in the eastern part of North Kivu has spread to * and * territories. It said the violence has been worsening in the *, *, and * territories of South Kivu. The ICRC is calling on all sides in the conflict to make sure the civilian population is respected and protected. The head of the groups team in South Kivu said some of those injured had to be carried four hours by foot to healthcare centers. It said the healthcare centers were in need of medical supplies and equipment.
